Apple CEO takes on iTunes DRM

Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs have posted an essay on his thoughts on music that he slammed up on Apple's front page. The essay present Steve's view on digital rights management technology on songs purchased from iTunes Store - their online music store - and he states that he does not want DRM on the music he sells, and blames the record labels for the whole DRM problem.

Apple's DRM ilegal in Norway

One point for the good guys! Apple's digital rights management technology used in their iTunes music player, iTunes Store, and popular iPod portable music layers are violating Norwegian law, according to numerous sources. Consumer groubs in Norway, Sweden and Denmark sent a letter to Apple early last year. And today it was reported that Apple violates Norwegian law and is in fact ilegal.

Online privacy, a joke?

More and more frequently we learn about companies, mostly digital content providers and hardware manufactures, trying to gain control over as much as possible about out computing and consumption habits. Digital rights management is a well know phenomenon which is designed to limit consumers rights with their own, purchased media. Having spy software that track every keystroke you make and forwards a copy of every email you receive to an unknown, third party…

These are all things we are aware of and are struggling to battle every day. But what about the enemies within? Are they not the ones we really should fear?

Printer identification dots

The Electronic Frontier Foundation made me aware of printer manufactures including machine identification code technology on all printed pages. These codes appears as small, invisible pink or yellow dots. They can be revealed when viewed in a microscope with a blue LED emitted light.

I had not even heard of, nor believed that such technology where included with laser printers for regular business and private consumers. I am seriously shocked over how much secret information there is about every each and one of us! Such as tracking technologies implemented in normal consumer gods that we are not even made aware of…
