Get Opera 9.5 from Opera’s Debian repository
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2008-06-12
The Norwegian web browser Opera was released in version 9.5 yesterday. The new version focuses on security and speed, but also introduces a few new features. But what is a new release, really? Here is how to use Debian’s packaging system to always stay up-to-date with the latest release of Opera:
Donations to free software
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2008-06-06
In the end of May I made a $ 100 USD donation to Software in the Public Interest, Inc. (SPI). As usual I encourage other users to make a small donation as well.
| Project | Amount |
|---|---|
| Total USD | $ 100 |
| Debian Project | $ 50 |
| FreeDesktop.org | $ 25 |
| PostgreSQL | $ 10 |
| OpenOffice.org | $ 10 |
| SPI General Fund | $ 5 |
This is a doubling of my contribution to SIP from last year with the introduction of the FreeDesktop.org and OpenOffice.org projects.
I have not made any contributions to KDE, ev. yet. Though I will most probably donate funds later this year too.
Open source and commercial “web solutions”
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2008-04-07
Web agencies promising outstanding web solutions trough our innovative text management system
are all nonsense. Very few of these agencies have their own content management system (CMS), and they should all stop pretending otherwise. The product these companies are offering is nothing more than a themed (at best) version of an freely available open source publishing tool.
Suggestion for an improved workflow in Akregator
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2007-11-18
Here is my (updated) email to the lead developer of and the emailing list for Akregator, the KDE news feed reader.
Hi Frank, I am writing to you because I have suggestions on how the user interface of Akregator could be change to provide a better workflow for users. I am first going to explain how users work with Akregator, and how it could be improved by a few changes.
