Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 in KDE on Debian

Got a Intel Pro/Wireless 3945-series WiFi card? Well, here is how you get it to work:

# aptitude install firmware-ipw3945 ipw3945d ipw3945-source module-assistant wpasupplicant network-manager-kde

Requires both the official non-free and contrib repositories. No reboot required.

Remember to apply KNetworkManager fix (This may require reboot; depending on Debian’s mood.)


I want a desktop computer!

I have been pro-portable notebook computer for the longest time. This has, however, recently changed. I am mostly using my computer while at home; and I really do not need it to be portable either. So for my next computer, I think I will get a desktop computer.

Abort sending message

My phone, the Nokia 6500 classic, has a weird feature that I have been using quite a lot: Delay the sending the message a few seconds so the user can abort it. This feature is intended to make up for shortcomings in the design that make the user accidently send a message, or accidently send a message a little too early.

Disconnecting with voice over internet protocol telephony

The Arc 7 cordless VoIP phone, from Doro I am getting a VoIP subscription from Norwegian broadband provider Telenor, and a Doro Arc 7 cordless phone for my home. The idea is to try and disconnect more and more from the annoying mobile phone phenomena and the need to always be available.

Telenor lets me forward my mobile phone calls to the VoIP phone at home for free. So I can turn off my mobile phone and then I am only available when I have got the time to be available; when I am at home. It is good to let go of the connected world sometime. Most you will hear is just nonsense anyways.
