Donations to free software
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2008-06-06
In the end of May I made a $ 100 USD donation to Software in the Public Interest, Inc. (SPI). As usual I encourage other users to make a small donation as well.
| Project | Amount |
|---|---|
| Total USD | $ 100 |
| Debian Project | $ 50 |
| FreeDesktop.org | $ 25 |
| PostgreSQL | $ 10 |
| OpenOffice.org | $ 10 |
| SPI General Fund | $ 5 |
This is a doubling of my contribution to SIP from last year with the introduction of the FreeDesktop.org and OpenOffice.org projects.
I have not made any contributions to KDE, ev. yet. Though I will most probably donate funds later this year too.
Shout out: Capris bookstore
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2008-05-14
Finally a good bookstore that has got everything in Norway! Capris has all the books I want and is cheaper than ordering from Amazon. I have always though it was quite insane that it should be cheaper to ship books over the Atlantic ocean.
Just a piece of free advertisement for my beloved bookstore here in Norway.

Check for local power outage before calling consumer support calming your external harddrive will not start. PS: I just proved this joke/myth can indeed happen to anyone!
Keep current with Debian’s releases
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2008-04-15
The current stable release of Debian—at the time of writing—is version 4.0r3, or ‘Etch’. Keeping current with the release cycle requires some work by default. It is not much, but some may prefer having it fully automated. This can easily be achieved by fine tuning the repository source list.
