Get Opera 9.5 from Opera’s Debian repository

The Norwegian web browser Opera was released in version 9.5 yesterday. The new version focuses on security and speed, but also introduces a few new features. But what is a new release, really? Here is how to use Debian’s packaging system to always stay up-to-date with the latest release of Opera:

Add the below lines to /etc/apt/sources.list. You may replace “stable” with any other Debian release.

# The Opera web browser (non-free), provided by Opera Software ASA
deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free

Then update your repository as usual with # aptitude update (or # apt-get update), and install the Opera web browser with # aptitude install opera. Enjoy an always up-to-date web browser!

The biggest news for me was the availability of a stable 64 bit version for GNU/Linux. (Also available in the repository.)
