Leaving Facebook

I deactivated my Facebook account earlier today; after long consideration. Here are my top reasons for leaving the service:

  1. Privacy.

Facebook collects huge amounts of user generated personal information. Your friends are selling out every bit of personal information about you. In good fate, but even still!

  2. Control.

I want to control what gets published on my own profile. Facebook does offer many privacy options. But non of those give me absolute control over my own profile page.

  3. Life after death.

I do not want to be alive trough Facebook after I have passed away. I do not want to live on as a ghost at some website.

  4. Good example.

I want to be an example for others. Do not continue using services that abuse you [or your identity], is my message to others.

The service never were that useful anyways.

PS: The preferred way to stay in touch with me is still email and Jabber.

One comment

The one thing I like about Facebook is that I've used it to contact people that I lost track of. Besides that, it's pretty pointless. It should probably be the next to go.
