Why Gnome does not work

KDE is usually portraited as a desktop enviroment that is hard to learn and difficult to use. I disagree. KDE is much easier to learn than Gnome and here is why Gnome does not work!

Works for testing only

Gnome is perfect for LiveCDs and other hands-on testing enviroments. But not for a real production enviroment. Gnome can preform simple tasks well and straight out of the box. But Gnome cannot be configured to do any real work!

Gnome does not offer it's users the luxury of personalizing their work flow. If you cannot learn the default work flow then you are pretty much screwed.

KDE on the other hand

KDE allows you to change everything and make things work the way you want and expect them to. You are not stuck with one way to do things. There are always options allowing you to configure something you can like.

Users just have to sit down once and configure something they can work with. KDE does not work out of the box like Gnome. The interface will be unfamiliar, menus look funny, icons not feel right, .. But once you have done it and found something that feels right: Then you will have found an operating system you can work with that feels right for you.
