Skype video calling on Linux getting closer

After examining the new interface in Skype 1.4b for Linux I have notice a tiny webcamera icon in the contact list. The icons indicate which of contact that have a webcamera enabled:

Video enabled Kristian Kringstad in Skype for Linux

The new beta does not have video calling. However this is the first time Skype for Linux shows the presence of video calling capabilities!

I think we will probably be seeing video calling some time soon. The icon is the first step. It also brings the Linux user interface much closer to the Mac and Win interfaces.

I have tryed the latest beta with Ubuntu 7.04, and it works like a charm. Good to see the Skype devs is making a working client for the GNU/Linux platform.

I want video calling now! I have a copy of Windows on my laptop soley to use with Skype and web cam chatting. It sucks spending so much hard drive space on this…
