Coping with internet addiction

Konqueror dreams
As of last Monday I do not have a permanent internet connection at home. I have had to manage with Opera Mini on my mobile phone, and those few hours a week I have media classes at school. Being that I am used to staying online at least eight hours a day, it has been hard coping with suddenly being cut off.
The big question stands: How to cope with internet addiction when you are cut off from the web?

Hot spot-junky

I have had, and still has, problems coping with the change. I really miss reading my email, listening to podcasts, browsing the web, chatting, and everything else I usually do online.
I have been running around in the neighbourhood and down-town Lillehammer with a wifi detector looking for free hot spots with free wifi. I have not been able to find any yet. Which is wired. Lillehammer is a heavily promoted for tourism, so I expected to find a couple down-town. But there were non!

Getting work done without the internet

Researching for work, school, this blog, and play– Let me just say it is a pain in the @&%/!! Not having access to Wikipedia, Ask! Search, and all the other luxuries the internet provides is just unimaginable.
I have been using notes even more frequent than before. I also find my self pre-composing all emails, blog-, and forum entries in OOo Writer when I am in offline mode. I use my USB stick to take them with me and post them online when I get to school. I also download podcasts, and bring them home the same way. Though I do get awfully behind on some show episodes.
Sadly I have not been able to do any web development, as all of my code are designed to run from on or other server. It is also difficult to find the proper solutions to JavaScript problems, and tricky bits of CSS. I am used to just look up the code I am having trouble with; and be done with it. But with no way to look up the proper codes, and look at examples… Well, I just have to leave it all for now.

What it will mean to this site?

My dad decided (without consulting me, I might add) that our broadband connection were too expensive, so he cancellated the subscription. As I have a little under three months left of videregĺende skole (by Norwegian school system, a little more advanced than American College) and I will probably not open a new subscription before I move out. I will probably be moving close to the end of term, and I will of course be getting an internet connection when I move by myself.
Open Source Notebook will probably not be updated as frequently as it has been in the past. But I promise to try posting at least once a week. I have a few scheduled entries waiting, but other than that it will be much harder keeping up with my limited internet availability.

Sorry to hear that.

That sucks!! I hope you can find a solution and get back online soon!! It is nice having you online, you know!

So that is why I have not seen you logged on to IM during sleep hours recently, haha.

On a more compassionate note, I am sorry to learn that. Internet withdrawal is a dreadful experience—I was once without the Internet for 48 hours straight! Not counting holidays of course, they are sorta manageable with preventive mental exercises.
