Responsible Blogger's Coalition

A month ago I wrote about . Ever since I have been playing with the idea of creating a network for responsible bloggers. A coalition for responsible media coverage.

Here are some of the ideas I have for requirements for joining the network:

  • Originality of content
To many blogs are just copies of other blogs, or digg whores. - with no new or original content at all! Bloggers would be responsible of ensuring originality of their content. It is OK to use refer to someone else's article, but write your own views and add something new to it!
  • Reflective
Blogs are personal, and should therefore also include reflections about the world. Not just my cat ate a fish, which are the actual event, but bloggers should also reflect upon why the cate ate the fish and what it means.
  • Target audience and not topic
The number of topic based blogs are growing. A problem with topic based media is that it is just narrowcasting. Instead one should set a target audience and publish entries of entries to that target audience, and not just one particular topic.
  • User feedback
Allow other users to comment on what they read in your blog. These should be monitored to ensure no spam or unethical comments stay on the site for too long. Maybe even moderated (thought this might kill the community feel of your blog).
  • Full name
If you want to be taken seriously, you will in you must let your readers know who you are.

I am not sure that I will even attempt to create this network. But I will definitely be playing some more with the idea in the months to come…

In the mean time: Would there be any interest in such a network? - and to bloggers: would you join in?

I would join your network, I think it is a good idea!
And I would help you build it, if you want my help.

Then we are two bloggers wanting a better blogosphere… I would need to see more interest in such a coalition before investing any time in it. You could try promoting it amongst your blog writing friends Christoffer, and see if they would join!

The technical bit of setting up such a network really is not the problem. I think the problem is the blogger, and getting them to understand the concept.

A blogging coalition? Do you do geek huddles and say "NI!" and giggle your way through your rants?

The internet is free. Having a coalition would only satisfy you, but it won't necessary make the blogging net a better place. What will make it a better place is steering clear of crappy blogs so that they die out of lack of traffic.

Wait. What am i doing here?

I would like to see a continuation of the topic
