Bought a Lenovo 3000 N100
I just ordered an IBM Lenovo 3000 N100! And as all other Lenovo/ThinkPad machines, it is said to be work excellent with Linux, and drivers should be available for all hardware features! Congratulations may be posted in the comment section!
The model I just ordered (TY0BJNO) appear to be available only in Norway and it cost about 1 585 USD. Here are some basic specifications, and some of mine expectations to my new found love:
- Display: 15.4 inches, backlit, "VibrantView" TFT, up to 1680 x 1050 resolution. Powereed by a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 with Turbo Cache, DDR2, 128 MB RAM.
- Processor: 1.83 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo (T5600), 64-bit architecture.
- Memory: 1 GB (can be doubled, but I see no need for it now.)
- Spinning disks: 100 GB internal hard-drive storage, and a 24x, dual-layer combined CD/DVD player and recorder.
- Notable hardware: Built-in: Biometric fingerprint scanner, Web camera, WiFi and Bluetooth, 4-in-1 multi-format memory card reader.
- Weight: 2.8 Kg.

Even more specifications are available at Lenovo Norway (specifications in English, though the rest of the site is in Norwegian.)
My expectations to this computer are high. Even higher than the one's I had to my first ever self owned computer, my dear old Apple iBook! First of all I expect, actually demand, that it should be much, much, much fast! Second I expect everything to "just work with Linux". Because that is what IBM do, right?
I am planning to run Fedora Core 6 with KDE on it. You might call that an odd mix as Fedora have been a typical Gnome desktop. But with Fedora 7 KDE (which is said to be an excellent KDE desktop) coming in just a little over a month (!!), I think it should go just fine until then. I need to get used to Fedora too! I have been a Ubuntu kid for some — Six-seven months? — now, but will be leaving the pop-ship soon. I will post more about this journey in the following weeks.
Quick summary of my soon to come system:
- Lenovo N100 15.4"
- 1.83GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 100 GB HD.
- Fedora Core 6, with KDE.
Estimated time of arrival: Just four days (2007-02-21.) The days will be terribly long until I get the computer. But when I get it time will just fly by me! It must be the new daylight savings time legislations, right? ![]()

I'm not jealous, not at all
Looks like a great computer. I think I have to save some money for one myself. My old HP isn't able to keep up with all the new graphic stuff.
