Gajim - Jabber client

There are a whole lot of Jabber/XMPP enabled clients available. I recommend the pure Jabber/XMPP client Gajim.

Regarding my recommendation you might say why not just go with Gaim which is included in Gnome by default? Well I prefer and recommend Gajim over Gaim for three important reasons:

  1. Gajim is a pure Jabber client which improved support for Jabber's protocol.
  2. Gajim allows GnuPG encryption of transmitted messages.
  3. It requires a little less system resources than Gaim (probably as Gaim additionally supports a variety of other protocols — and therefore more easily becomes a memory hog).

Gajim and Gaim's user interfaces are almost identical. However Gajim's interface takes more advantage of the full power of XMPP, something which Gaim does not.

I'm using Psi. Have you tried that? If so, what would you say makes Gajim better than Psi?

For a start: Psi makes a stupid bell sound. And the window management and user interface in general is a pain in a certain crack…
