I am sorry to hear about your bad experiences with Linux. But it is well known that Windows programs—especially games—does not run on anything but the operating system they were written for. However: You should consider dual booting.

That way, you could stay safe and sound on a Linux system; but also have a Windows installation ready for gaming and commercial software. I know this is how many gamers do it. You get just about everything but the games for Windows on Linux.

Ubuntu is trying to be Mac OS and Windows, and is failing in doing so. Other distributions does a better job of being Linux desktops; but are not as compatible and easy to install. (Not that the latter is what makes a Linux desktop.) You may want to consider using another distribution.

If you want Linux games, you will have to talk to the software companies developing the Windows‐only games. I hope this helps.

well im having ubuntu hardy and im really starting to hate it nothing working like it should and the whole os freezes when trying to play something with it. Ubuntu forums gives only crap to read. Stay win xp if u dont wanna end up beating the whole pc up… wine sucks and u have to pay for using cedega ehrmm wtf pay for play a free game… kubuntu opensuse and madriva are sucking ass too . linux just is a fail os.

1) They try to overshadow Linux. "What's that you're running?" "Oh it's Ubuntu". NO MORON. FUCK YOU!!! It's a cheap pirate ripoff of Debian GNU+Linux. EMPHASIS ON THE GNU+LINUX. Ubuntu is not worth of its own name.

2) They come up with their own cliquey apps. Oh, this is a program for Ubuntu. NO, DICK WEED. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED to make a program just for Ubuntu. And for trying, FUCK YOU. GO BACK TO WINDOWS. If it doesn't work in 90% of the other distros, it's not a program, it's blasphemy.

4) Of all the GNU+Linux users I know personally, the Ubuntu users are by FAR, the most disappointing and stupid.

5) QUIT MASTURBATING the "community", and write usable code.

7) Go up to a ubuntu user, and ask them what's different between two different versions of Ubuntu BESIDES THE WALLPAPER.

I wouldn't know because I don't use Windows, but I'll take your word on that. However; it doesn't matter what windows costs because nobody buys windows. They get it for free on the computer they just bought. So "I'm getting $239 for free" and that's a lot better in peoples' minds than "I'm getting $0 for free".

And again; nobody buys windows. One dude downloads it off Bit Torrent, and shares it with a hundred friends. Or one dude buys it, and installs it company wide. Anyone intelligent to install software, let alone and OS, is smart enough to use bit torrent. Windows isn't sold. It's a give-away, and practically /as/ gratis as Linux. So that argument of "ooh, Windows costs money! Goodness I can't spend money now can I?" is complete and utter bullshit and only reveals that you need to get a god damned job!
