Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC)

I have used OGG Vorbis from the Xiph.Org Foundation for some time now. I have fallen in love with the high quality and good compression that the Vorbis codec provides.

Now I am looking into OGG FLAC, a free lossless codec from the same foundation.

Ripping CDs in WMA (Microsoft's proprietary lossless codec) gives huge files. It cannot really be considered for larger music libraries as the output files size are even sometime larger than the original CD!

However the FLAC codec compresses the output files without compromising on the audio quality. It gives exellent audio playback. I cannot hear the difference betwhen original CDs and FLAC encoded audio files. I have not done any extensive research into this, but FLAC sounds just as perfect as the CD to my ears.

Due to storage space limitations I am foced to use OGG Vorbis for most of my music. But the stars in my musuci library are now stored with OGG FLAC. The file size are considerably larger, but the quality is much better than Vorbis'.

I would like one limit-less amount of storage to go, please.

Whilst FLAC is good, you really don't actually need it - not unless you have the hardware to back it up. Regular 320kbs .OGG files will serve you well. (Unless you can hear the difference, that is.)

Personally my laptop & MP3 player don't really need much more than a basic 256kbs.

Just my two řre.

Of course this would require proper hardware!

Note that .org is only the container. It can contain Vorbis or FLAC (audio), Theora (video) or even subtitles!

You'll never be able to hear the difference until you're at a studio or something.

You'd probably hear the difference on your headphones, and the audio setup used in concerts.

However, Apple Lossless seems to do the job quite well, and I hear no difference from the CD and the audio file.

File size is approx 10x of the equivialent MP4 file.

By the way, where are your contact details?
